Measles Outbreak Maricopa County
Due to the ongoing measles outbreak and increased community transmission in Arizona, we are updating our vaccination recommendations to ensure the highest level of protection for our youngest patients. In alignment with recent guidance from the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH), we are advising the following:
Infants 6–11 Months: If your child is in this age group, it is now recommended that they receive an early dose of the MMR vaccine. Please note that this "dose 0" provides immediate protection during the outbreak but does not replace the standard two-dose series. Your child will still need their regularly scheduled doses at 12–15 months and 4–6 years.
Children 1–4 Years: If your child has already received their first dose, we may recommend moving up the second dose to bolster immunity, provided it has been at least 28 days since their last MMR shot.
Monitor for Symptoms: Measles is highly contagious. If your child develops a high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or the hallmark red-blotchy rash, please call our office before coming in so we can provide instructions and prevent potential exposure to other families in the waiting room.
The safety of our community is our priority. If you have questions regarding your child's vaccination status or the current outbreak, please contact us to discuss the best plan for your family.
